Greenlite Lighting Solutions, a retail lighting expert, urges retailers to think twice before purchasing cheap LED lighting.

Andy Chell, Sales and Marketing Manager at the commercial lighting company, says: “The old adage is definitely right – if the price looks too good to be true, then it probably is! It might be tempting to go for the cheaper option when purchasing LED, but you’ll likely be sacrificing quality and end up paying more overall.”

He adds: “The reason that large LED manufacturers, such as Philips and Osram, price their products at higher rates is that they have invested a significant amount in research and development. If an LED product is being offered at a lower price, there’s a high chance that this hasn’t happened.”

“The problem is that, once buyers have had a bad experience with a poor-quality LED lighting installation, they’re less likely to opt for LED again,” Andy notes. “This is the fault of the manufacturers who exaggerate the quality of what is essentially a substandard product.

“That said, buyers do need to shoulder some of the blame and realise that best price does not always mean best value,” he adds. “It’s better to pay more for reliability than to incur expensive maintenance costs further down the line.

“It’s definitely a case of ‘you pays your money and takes your choice’! Prioritising quality over cost-savings means a better deal for both you and your customers in the long run.”
